About Meg Geary - founder MG Gardens
Philosophy
To design beautiful gardens that are responsive to each client, their needs, house architecture and surrounding landscape, creating a sense of place and a garden that is unique to each project. My strong background in horticulture results in a rich and textured planting palette, suited for the style of your garden, the site conditions and your lifestyle.
Profile
Meg has had a love of plants ever since she was a child. This love translated into the completion of a Horticultural Degree at Melbourne University, Burnley Campus. This path took her to the retail nursery business, where she worked in nurseries throughout Melbourne, including Gill's Nursery Brighton and Town and Country Gardens Malvern. She has worked in nurseries in Alice Springs and Ireland during her career and has also gained practical experience by supplying specialist garden services.
Meg decided to explore her passion for design, and completed a Cert IV Applied Design at NMIT. This allowed Meg to further hone her extensive horticultural knowledge and apply it to create well considered and beautifully designed gardens. During her time at NMIT she was highly commended in the 2013 AILDM Student Design Awards, and was a finalist and eventual winner of the 2013 Landscaping Victoria Student Design competition an the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (now the Boutique Gardens Competition).
Meg went on to work for well known designers Paul Bangay in plant procurement and Ian Barker in plant procurement and planting design, before taking the plunge and starting her own design business.
She has since successfully exhibited at the 2018 Melbourne Flower and Garden Show in collaboration with Ben Harris Gardens, winning a bronze medal for their Landscape Show Garden ‘Harmony’, as well as building a varied portfolio of projects from small inner city gardens, to extensive country projects. She has also appeared on 3AW and local radio garden shows, as well as writing articles for industry publications.
